Adopt a Box

During these unprecedented times, our state’s agricultural industry has taken a hit greatly due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many have been layoff from work and are struggling to feed their families. More than ever our health is extremely important and it is sickening to see excessive produce being thrown out going to waste.

Adopt A Box

Adopt-a-Box provides a way for the public to get involved in bettering their community and ensuring no crops go to waste. Every 25 dollar donation (tax-deductible) would provide a family in need with a 20-pound box of fresh fruits and vegetables. Depending on the season the boxes will vary from what is available from tomatoes, squash, onions, avocados, and mangos all picked and grown locally. This won’t only get South Florida produces into the hands of hungry families but also help farmers with their crops at the same time.

Who created it:

Redland Ahead, a non-profit organization, has helped many South Florida veterans and under-resourced communities become farmers. Their tireless efforts and continuous support for the community have had great impacts. This new program Adopt-a-Box will help our locals and small community farmers instead of the big-name supermarkets that will survive these hard times.

Distribution & Donation Info:

The first distribution of boxes was on April 18 (2020) at the Homestead Sports Complex at 1601 SE 28th Avenue, Homestead, FL 33035. It will continue to take place every Saturday as long as funding is available.
